Can you give me suggestions for a good breed to go in for , I'm planning to buy a Dog for my bungalow in Lonavla. Would prefer a breed that is good to the family and yet ferocious enough to guard the house?
Most dogs are like guns....no one wants to know if they are loaded when they are pointed at them ! Farm life is a little tougher as the dogs are exposed to the elements a lot more. Your primary concern should be the dogs ability to handle climatic conditions, be smart around snakes and scorpions (especially during the monsoons) and be territorial. I would prefer a local nondescript healthy dog who would inherit an instinct about the territory. Please do not train for ferocity...the wrong person (guest, workman. child) might get hurt. Dogs who are trained for man-work should be completely obedience trained first and should have no iota of bloodlust. Ferocious dogs on farms have been poisoned in the past by determined thieves so they should be trained not to eat from others.
The Doberman is a tougher dog than Labradors or German Shephards the other preferred breeds for this role. Local hounds like the Mudhol are also good options. Of the smaller dogs Lhassa aphsos are natural security dogs and very tough.
Bitches are easier to train and once fixed there are no heat related problems whilst males might run off and get into fights come breeding season.
Mudassar, get a German Shepherd , better known as GSD.. They can guard the house as well as be nice to the family.. If you wanna think beyond breed then you can adopt an Indian dog also.. Because they are low maintenance , free of most diseases and they are good with the family ..As well as they can guard well...
I think u shud go for an male labrador.....they're very friendly, aggressive, easy to maintain and easy to train......u can also go wit great-danes ....they are very friendly but their size would be a problem if u have kids at home....though they're not very ferocious their SIZE tends to scare away people.... :)
