Nutrition is not only important for human beings but also for animals. Your dog requires good amount of nutrition to be happy and healthy.
A good healthy meal consist of meat, vegetables and fruits. You can provide the same for your dog, but the proportion and the method to feed is very important. Some foods are very good for your pet in raw condition while some requires a slight cooking. Before continuing with the guidelines let me make it very clear in the beginning only that chocolates, grapes, cakes and caffeine should be avoided completely.
Let us start with the first meal you can give your dog. They love it, yes your guess is right (CHICKEN). Always make it a point to give boneless chicken because I have seen many dogs who are not comfortable eating chicken with bone and they sometimes can prove dangerous. I can give you one good example where my pet Labrador was given a chicken and she tried to swallow the bone. It got choked and we had to call the Vet.
Dog foods are one of the best food which contains all required nutrition for your pet. You don't have to worry about anything, as it contains all the minerals and vitamins in proper quantity. Selecting a dog food again require some guidance so don't forget to ask your Vet for suggestion. There are many dog foods available in the market. I give Ruby (My pet Labrador) Pedigree.
Home made foods are also good. I would suggest you to keep a balance between packed dog food and home made food. I feed my dog twice a day, in the morning I feed her with home made food and in the evening with packed dog food, thus there is a balance in her diet.
Home made food which I feed her contains chapati and rice. I mix egg or chicken with chapati or rice. The above food may not suit your breed so before trying out any home made food for your dog I request you to consult your Vet.
I also give Ruby some in-between snacks like dog biscuits, carrot, boiled smashed potato.
Remember one thing, never try to ignore your dog's eating habit. You will only learn this with patience and experience.
Always keep a fix timing twice a day to feed your pet.
In-between snacks can also be given as a treat if your dog follows some good command and tricks.
Never over feed your dog.
If your dog vomits because of indigestion consult your Vet immediately.
Whenever Ruby has indigestion problem and she vomits, I only give her plain vanilla ice-cream, curd and rice for that entire day as suggested by my Vet.
Again note treatment and diet can change according to your breed so consultation with your Vet is very important. Don't follow anything on your own.
