| 3 years after blackie passed away, one fine afternoon, wen i was returning from college, i saw a frail thin pup lying on the side of the road. I asked the ppl there and came to know that some body had hit him and ran off. I went back home and had a talk with my dad and asked him to come with me. When we got there, the poor thing was in a very sorry state, and my dad petted it. The sweet look on his eyes and the thump of his tail told us that we had a sweetheart with us already. We immediately picked him up in our car, though he whimpered a bit due to the pain, and took him to the vet. After an hour or so, the doc had put a "Thomas Splint" on his leg and plastered it. My mum didn't yet know about all of this. :) On reaching home it took us a full 3 hrs to make mom understand that he needed us. That's how he became a part of my family. ( My lil bro who was watching the kid channel POGO at that time decided to call him with the same name). With proper food he became a super sweet pup, full of puppy fat et all.
Sometimes i wondered if he indeed was a cross! His looks and mannerisms defied that of a normal pariah dog . It took me hardly 20 mins to teach him to sit and give me a five! ( I knw its hard to believe) with jst a help of a piece of chocolate cake and two light smacks with a newspaper on his butt!! On morning walks people would actually come and ask me, about his breed, some said he looked like a Jack Russel and others said he was a Fox terrier! but for me he was Pogo! 6 yrs with him passed like a flash! And i still miss my Pogo and blame that dog owner who couldn't control his St bernard when it pounced on that lil thing. Heavy Bleeding and a torn vein in his neck was all that took him away from me, even in my lap on the way to the vet, he kept thumping his tail and licking my hand when i caressed him. Dnt know if i'll ever get over him!!
I think, the rule for acquiring a licence for keeping a big dog has to be made mandatory in every city. Helps a owner to get out of sticky situations in case of a mishap. It is there in Kolkata but has not been enforced strictly. |
